Vaccinations are known to be one
of the greatest inventions in modern day history. The eradication and
prevention of some of the most harmful and deadly diseases is primarily from
the safeness and effectiveness of vaccines.  Two hundred years ago, English physician
Edward Jenner invented a small pox vaccine which would additionally be noted to
save approximately five million lives a year world- wide (Bellamy, Nakajima). This
major and life- saving immunization has helped with the development of other
vaccines such as diphtheria, tetanus, yellow fever, whopping cough, polio, and
measles. The creation of these immunizations has led to advances in technology and
contributes to helping global health by improving the quality of vaccines. They
have also positively influenced the developing aspect of medical regions. Vaccinating
children is such a simple and fundamental task that could prevent possible
outcomes in the future and increase life expectancy. Although fewer people are
choosing to vaccinate, the need for protecting children though immunizations
from dangerous and potentially deadly diseases should be more strictly
enforced.

The enforcement of vaccinations
and children should be more closely regulated for three main reasons. The first
reason is that it protects people from death and deadly diseases. The second reason
is that it saves families time and money. The final reason why vaccinating should
be mandatory is mainly because it prevents the risk of contracting serious and
preventable diseases while traveling.

Additionally, vaccinating
decreases the risk of getting deadly diseases and can put a stop to death.
Advances in medical science including improvement of the formulations of vaccines
and genetic engineering have increased the overall quality of the vaccination
tremendously. Genetic engineering is defined as a group of techniques of
genetics that alters the original make up of an organism’s DNA using
biotechnology. Using pathogens with this kind of engineering creates a safer
vaccine rather than using a conventional technique (Ghoosh).  By doing this, it is opening a new target to
take a closer look at new and developing diseases. Another major advancement for
immunizations was adjuvants. Adjuvants are added ingredients to vaccines which
are used to improve the body’s immune system and to enhance its resistance to a
disease. Although most adjuvants were taken out of vaccines, two remain which
are aluminum/ aluminum salts and Monophophoryl lipid A.  To increase technology adjuvants will always
need to be present. An additional way vaccines are improving is the way they
are being delivered to the patient. Instead of being injected via needle, researches
and scientist are already providing some vaccines and immunizations by mucosal
delivery. The live, attenuated influenza vaccine Flu Mist is given as a nasal
spray, and the rotavirus vaccine, licensed in the U.S in 2006, is delivered
orally (McCullers, Dunn).  Researches are
also taking a closer to look to see if this kind of delivery could help prevent
against HIV infection and tuberculosis. Rapid advances are changing the way
doctors, pharmacists, and health care professionals are looking at the progress
and advancement of vaccines which promotes a greater reasoning on why people
should choose to vaccinate.

            Furthermore,
vaccine schedule and a combination of vaccines have been researched to be safe
and effective in strengthening the immune system. By sticking to a specific schedule,
it ensures the safety and effectiveness is much more likely that not remaining
up to date with vaccines.  Leaving
out shots or spreading out the shot schedule puts patients at higher risks of
contracting diseases during that time as well. Numerous people can be at risk
if shots are delayed such as babies who are too young to be fully vaccinated, people
with weakened immune systems due to cancer and even children in the same
community or play groups( Tetreault). “Recent outbreaks and deaths among
children around the world from mumps, to measles, to whopping cough are all
proof that reduced vaccination rates increase exposure and disease risk. Before
vaccines, many children died as a result of these diseases, but this no longer
has to be the case; these diseases can now be prevented with vaccinations.”

choosing to vaccinate can save families time and money.
