evidence from the bible shows that a prophetic guild usually comprised of the experienced man of God who could be regarded as the ‘Father of the guild’ and under him were the sons of the prophet. The father of the guild was responsible for interpreting to the trainee prophets some prophetic experiences they would have experienced. The sons of the prophet were not of the same rank. There was usually a senior son who could be regarded as a successor of the father of the guild. He selected the successor at an old age or towards death. The sons of the prophet shared the divine spirit that possessed the father of the guild. The spirit was contagious and would fall on any member of the prophetic guild. Some scholars argue that Samuel was the father of a prophetic guild , when he anointed Saul and told him to meet a band of prophets, he was in fact referring to the disciples that gathered around him and his sons A good example of a prophetic guild was the group headed by Elijah and the senior disciple was Elijah
