Having to grieve over the loss of a child is something that no person wishes to go through, sadly for the Ramsey’s they had no choice. JonBenet Ramsey was a pageant queen in her small town of Boulder, Colorado. JonBenet Ramsey was born August 6, 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia. She lived with her mother Patsy, father John, and older brother Burke. Her mother, Patsy Ramsey, was a former beauty queen. On Christmas night in 1996, JonBenét was known to have been brutally beaten, strangled, and sexually assaulted. Although there was a ransom note that was left requesting $118,000, her body was later found in the basement of her Boulder home according to (Casarez, Jean. “The Death of JonBenet: A Case That’s Captivated the Country for 20 Years.” CNN, Cable News)
According to the coroner’s report, JonBenét’s official cause of death was because of asphyxia by strangulation JonBenet was only 6 years old (Crime Museum).
Her death is still one of the most famous police investigations and has left the media in disbelief. As the years went on there were no arrest many people began to suspect that the family had something to do with her death. Soon Boulder police had stated that John and Patsy Ramsey would remain under suspicion.
At the time of the investigation the police who had come to the Ramsey’s house had made very vital mistakes that bargained the investigation. During the investigation the police had made a massive mistake by letting John pick his daughter’s body up from the basement, which is tampering with the evidence. John and Patsy were never interviewed separately during questioning, they were always together when they had to speak to anyone.
Four years went by and there had still been no major leads following the JonBenet case, at this time the Ramseys became the main suspects. The public looked at the parents as if they were just as guilty after hearing about evidence which did not put the Ramsey’s in the most innocent light. John and Patsy’s stories were never consistent, the media publicized them as the one that is to deserving of the blame; the ransom note was found to be written on the same paper that was spotted at in their home also the fiber from the duct tape that was found on her body matched the same fiber on Patsy’s clothes. both John and Patsy Ramsey denied all accounts of involvement in the kidnapping and the murder of their daughter found in their estate basement. There are many fingers pointing to the Ramseys and also many reasons for them to want to get rid of their own child as horrible as it may sound. The main reason for child homicides is due to their life insurance value. In spite of the fact that JonBenet’s profit was not formally released to the press there was approximated to be around the upper six figures to low seven figures.
In December 1999, the Boulder grand jury held a vote to criminate John and Patsy Ramsey for their so called role in JonBenet’s murder “JonBenét Ramsey Biography.”
Alex Hunter a district attorney in Boulder decided not to charge them due to not enough evidence. When the case was dropped, the Ramsey’s made their returned to Atlanta, Georgia in order to escape the media. A couple years later, Pasty died at age 49 due to ovarian cancer and was buried next to her beloved daughter Jonbenet in Marietta, Georgia.
