Monopods are dwarf-like creatures with one really big foot extending from a leg in the middle of their bodies. They can also be called Sciapods, Both those names are Greek, and they mean “one-foot” and “shadow-foot”. Shadow-foot because they would lie in the sun and be shaded by their huge foot. Monopods were said to be great jumpers, and very fast runners. These mysterious creatures, monopods, used to influence culture in medieval times, but now if someone mention a monopod, most likely you’ll think of a selfie stick. Monopods are actually mentioned in the movie ‘Narnia’, so these mysterious creatures are not completely forgotten.
A Melusine or Melusina, is a female spirit of water in a spring or river. She is usually shown as a woman who is a serpent or fish from the waist down, like a mermaid. Melusine is also depicted with wings, two tails, or both. She only gets these tails when submerged in water however. The legends, which are connected to France and Greece, say that she leaves her husband after he brakes a privacy oath to her to not disturb her on a Saturday, the day that she bathes. She gets angry, turns into a dragon, and flies away. Melusine is a goddess of fertility and war.
The major brand called Starbucks, actually uses a picture of the Melusine in their logo. Many people who drink their coffee don’t actually know this. Little did the people who lived in Medieval times know that people would be drinking coffee out of cups with a picture of Melusine on them.
