The events in the movie “2081” are very similar to the events in the short story Harrison Bergeron. Both are set in the future where people are handicapped for equality in society. Both introduce the same characters under similar circumstances as well like when George is watching television, or Harrison escapes prison and dances with the ballerina. At the beginning of the movie, the narrative of the story is exactly the same as the start of Harrison Bergeron.

There are many difference in “Harrison Bergeron” and “2081” that are mostly small and do not change the story that much. The first difference noticed was that instead of wearing led balls around their necks people used a futuristic device with a display on them. The next thing I noticed was that in the movie “2081” Harrison Bergeron claimed that there was a “bomb” under the theater and that he had the detonator in his hand which would start the bomb. The detonators actual purpose was to start the live broadcast on television again once the HG men deactivated it to not reveal anything. That was a the main difference I noticed between “Harrison Bergeron” and “2081.”
